can i play movies off a WD TV HD Media Player from a IOMEGA Prestige Desktop External Hard Drive - 1TB?

ok so i have got this idea in my head that im not sure about if it will work, i was going to buy a IOMEGA Prestige Desktop External Hard Drive - 1TB and a WD TV HD Media Player.
hoping that i can put movie files on the external hard drive to the media player straight to my tv use a lead to connect the to thing together and another coming from the media player to my tv.

yes it will work but you will have to transfer your movies onto the hard drive and then plug it into the media player. Providing all your movies are in the right formats as it supports "MPEG1/2/4, WMV9, AVI (MPEG4, Xvid, AVC), H.264, MKV, MOV (MPEG4, H.264)"

why would you need to burn dvds if you have a portable media player though? do you mean "rip" them? i.e convert your dvds into video files that you can play on you media player?
